Interiors
TMA Studio
Recoleta, Santiago · 2024
Recovery of an old house in Recoleta turned into a ceramics studio. The façade is preserved as a record of time, while the interior is reformulated in a quieter, more disciplined language.
The project intervenes an old, near-abandoned house in Recoleta. The opening decision was deliberate: keep the existing continuous façade exactly as it stands — wear, patina and all — as evidence of time passing and of the neighbourhood it belongs to.
The interior, by contrast, is fully reformulated. What was once a labyrinth of small rooms is emptied out and turned into a studio for a ceramic artist, organised around her practice and around the piece itself as protagonist.
The design criterion is radical in its sobriety: white, pure, visually quiet spaces so the work can speak. Natural light is carefully calibrated not to compete with the ceramic material or with the studio's own gesture.
Developed in collaboration with architect Cecilia Aldunate Montes.
